Tips and souvenirs
7. Will I see wildlife?
Yes - all three countries offer exceptional wildlife encounters. Expect elephants, hippos, giraffes, antelope, zebra, predators (lion/leopard/wild dog), and incredible birdlife. Wildlife sightings happen both in national parks and around some camps.
8. How safe are Botswana, Namibia, and Zambia?
All three countries are considered very safe for travellers. Campsites and lodges are well managed, and our routes avoid unsafe areas. Normal travel awareness is advised, especially in wildlife zones.
9. Do I need a visa?
It depends on nationality. Many travellers (UK, EU, USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa) receive visa free entry or visas on arrival. We provide guidance based on your passport. Namibia recently added a lot of countries to their Visa Required List.
10. What’s the food like on an overlanding trip?
Meals are a combination of:
-
Freshly prepared camp meals
-
Lodge meals where included
-
Self-catering options with vehicle fridges
We shop and plan menus to suit the group and dietary needs.
11. What’s the best time of year to travel?
April to October is peak season with dry weather, excellent wildlife viewing, and comfortable temperatures.
November to April offers greener landscapes, dramatic skies, and fewer visitors but can be hotter or wetter in some regions.
12. Do I need vaccinations or malaria tablets?
Normal travel vaccinations are recommended. Botswana, Namibia, and Zambia all have malaria in certain areas, so prophylaxis is advised. Always check with your travel clinic.
13. Can the itinerary be customised?
Yes. We can tailor routes to include:
-
More river time (Zambezi, Okavango, Chobe)
-
More desert and wilderness (Namib, Kalahari)
-
Extra days in national parks
-
Country combinations (Botswana + Namibia + Zambia)
14. How much spending money do I need?
Most guests bring USD $300–$600 for optional activities, snacks, drinks, and souvenirs. Prices vary between countries, but USD is widely accepted in tourism regions. Fuel is pay-as-we-go on all our trips, and we will advise the cost of this during our online briefing.
15. Can I join if I don’t want to drive?
Yes. You can join as a non-driver, and a support team member or travelling companion can take over the driving responsibilities.
